FRANCE-SCIENTOLOGY
PARIS-French court issues verdict on whether to dissolve the French
branch of the Church of Scientology. Verdict expected around 0900 GMT.
On charges of organised fraud:
Alain Rosenberg is guilty!
2 years prison term suspended + 30,000 euros fine
Celebrity Center is guilty!
400,000 euros fine
SEL Library is guilty!
200,000 euros fine
Scientology fined

The Paris court today sentenced the two main structures of the French
Church of Scientology for organized fraud to a total fine of 600,000
euros, but has authorized the continuation of their activities.
Alain Rosenberg, described by the Paris court of "de facto manager" of
the Spiritual Association of the Church of Scientology, was sentenced
today to two years suspended sentence and 30,000 euro fine for fraud in
organized gang.
In detail, the Celebrity Center to pay 400,000 euros fine and library
SEL 200,000 euros for "organized fraud". The court did not ask the
arrrêt tracking activity "because it could continue without any legal
framework. A legislative amendment prevented in any such dissolution.
Prosecutors had requested including the June 15 dissolution of the
Spiritual Association of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center,
bookstore and SEL and a fine of two million euros each cons. The case
involved two plaintiffs who say they were robbed in 1998 of 21,000 and
49,500 euros.

The ordering to publish the judgments against them in the press (Time Magazine among them, which is fitting given it was Time that really blew the lid off Scientology in 1991) is so delicious.
