Le plus important procès jamais intenté en France contre la secte de la scientologie s’ouvre aujourd’hui au Tribunal correctionnel de Paris et se terminera mercredi 17 juin. Certes, des scientologues, à titre uniquement personnel, ont déjà été condamnés, en 1997 à Lyon, et en 1998 à Marseille. En 2002, pour la première fois, une personne morale attachée officiellement à l’Eglise de scientologie (sa section de l’Ile-de-France) avait été frappée d’une amende de 8000 euros pour avoir fiché informatiquement d’anciens adeptes. Mais les débats qui commencent cet après-midi sont d’une tout autre gravité.
Voyez plutôt. Sept dirigeants et deux personnes morales, dont la secte elle-même – à savoir l’Association spirituelle de l’Eglise de scientologie –, sont accusés notamment d’escroquerie en bande organisée, recel aggravé, extorsion, exercice illégal de la pharmacie. De plus, si à l’issue de ce procès cette «Eglise» est condamnée en tant que personne morale, elle risque la liquidation judiciaire.
L’affaire remonte à 1998 avec la plainte d’une ancienne adepte. Il s’en est suivi une instruction longue et complexe, émaillée de multiples incidents de procédure provoqués par les défenseurs de la secte. En outre, en 2006, le parquet lui-même demanda au juge d’instruction d’enterrer le dossier par une ordonnance de non-lieu. Mais le magistrat avait refusé et, finalement, le Tribunal de Grande Instance avait ordonné le renvoi des accusés en jugement. Cette prise de position du parquet – qui en France dépend du gouvernement – avait alimenté la polémique, l’opposition soulignant la somptueuse réception, en 2004, de la vedette scientologue Tom Cruise par le ministre Nicolas Sarkozy.
Un PDG pris dans la secte
Le dossier est fondé sur quatre plaintes venant d’anciens adeptes ou de leur entourage. Un point commun les relie: tous souffraient de détresse morale, voire de dépression, lorsqu’ils ont été approchés par la secte.
Ainsi, la première plaignante a décrit les pressions dont elle a été l’objet de la part de ses «superviseurs». Après un examen bidon qui la déclarait très affectée psychiquement, elle a été incitée à acheter au prix fort des «cours de réparation de vie», des «procédures de purification», des «traitements» à la vitamine (d’où l’accusation d’exercice illégal de la pharmacie) et de pénibles séances de sauna. En tout, elle a déboursé plus de 21 000 euros (près de 32 000 francs) après avoir liquidé toutes ses économies.
Le cas le plus troublant est offert par le président-directeur-général d’une entreprise qui, prit dans les rets de la secte, a failli mettre en péril sa propre société après avoir versé des sommes importantes à divers organismes scientologues, représentant jusqu’à 12% de la masse salariale.
Tous les accusés contestent le caractère pénal de leurs actes, affirment que ce procès est le fruit d’un complot tramé contre eux par les organismes antisectes et en appellent à la liberté religieuse. Ils devront désormais en convaincre leurs juges.
